The city of Valladolid in Spain is currently testing EGNOS and SISNET in social field, with a personal navigator composed of a Braille keyboard and a voice synthesiser and including a GPS/EGNOS receiver to provide blind people with their position but also with routing and guidance.

VisuAide have launched a Pocket PC + GPS device adapted for the blind and visually impaired with talking menus, talking maps and location information.

Vodafone Spain launched an emergency service for disabled people in the winter of 2003. It combines a very user-friendly one-button emergency dial-up cellular phone and a GPS-based localization system.The emergency call centre receives an alarm message that includes the position of the person in need.The service has been developed in close co-operation with disabled people and it is financially backed by charity organizations and foundations.

Applied Digital Solutions have unveiled Digital Angel – a subdermal microchip implant designed to keep tabs on the location of human beings and pets.

In Canada, Grey Island Systems have equipped the snowploughs of the city of Vaughan with receivers. Citizens can see digital maps via the Internet displaying live information on where these vehicles are working with respect to their own location. [1]
