Is there a need for an european wide industry association?

Is there a need for an european wide industry association?
The members of the Working Group developed a common understanding that the flow of information between the GALILEO programme and
related European industries should be improved in both ways, e.g. to give European industry access to up-to-date information on the state of
GALILEO development and its technical features, and to provide information on industry needs to the programme management.
In order to improve information flow a joint effort of European GNSS related industries is required, e.g. to provide a central contact point to the
public sector and to disseminate information to the industries concerned. The existing industrial trade associations (Automotive, Mechanical
Engineering, Electrical Engineering, etc.) that are addressed to specific products or market sectors very likely would not be suitable in this context.
The market activities of these associations and their members are too heterogeneous and too fragmented to find a common baseline in
view of a new satellite navigation system such as GALILEO.
A more appropriate way would be to have an GNSS focussed platform representing all those industries supplying and using GNSS related
products and services, e.g. an industrial association or similar organisation focusing on the industries' interest and needs as regards the development
and deployment of GALILEO. [1]
